Placing my fathers name on the lifeboat named in memory of the Duke of Edinburgh is a fitting tribute to someone who loved the sea, R.N.L.I, and his family. As a child he would take my brother Robert and myself to the harbour in Cornwall watch the fishing trawlers return safely with their catch, and as an amateur painter, would include a lifeboat in his compositions if he could . Knowing his name ( ,and mum,s on Eric,s legend ),is remembered, is a small tribute to a lovely man,and dad.

Our 17 year old sons name appears on the starboard side of the lifeboat at the bottom of the N. We are are both pleased and proud that Sam's name is included in so many other names of remembrance of loved ones. Cyril was a beloved dad and husband. He died of cancer in 1999 and we miss him every day. If anyone had a problem, he would always be the one to come to the rescue, and he'd be chuffed to bits to be part of rescuing people with the RNLI. He was a great admirer of the organisation. We can picture the big grin he'd have on his face at the thought of his name on a lifeboat and how proud he'd be.

Ryan our son died tragically age 36 in 2020. He was a wonderful loving son to Steve and Sheilagh, brother to Jake and Louis, Dad to Sophia and Reece and husband of Clair as well as a friend to many. Ryan was a free spirit and adventurer. He loved adventures on the sea, lochs open waters so he would be happy his name is on this lifeboat. He looked out for other folk and helped many when they were in need. We all (including Bailey) love and miss you very much Ryan. Xx

I remember meeting Duncan Newlands on one of our many family holidays to Campbeltown many tear ago when I was just a kid. I'm now 60 but he obviously made such an impact on me as a boy that I can remember our meeting decades later. We were complete strangers to each other's but I remember he invited me into his home where he showed me his medal for his services to life-saving. I'm pretty sure it was an MBE. Tony and his wife Suzanne fell in love with Wells in the 1980s and Norfolk became their home in 1997. Although not a man of the sea Tony became a Harbour Commissioner and later Chairman, which he found most rewarding during the twelve years he was involved. He continued his contact with the harbour by then becoming a member of the Coastwatch Team.

Pat and Ernie were the most amazing parents, and grandparents, that anyone could have wished for and are both greatly missed by all their family. They both enjoyed spending time by the sea, and Dad especially loved messing about in boats. They supported the RNLI and would take us to visit lifeboat stations when on holiday. We think they will both be smiling now, reunited again, their names together on the new Wells lifeboat, watching over the lifeboat crew.

Captain Mike O'Byrne

Michael O'Byrne was born in Rome, where his father was posted to the Irish Embassy. He trained at TS Worcester and helped with rigging the Cutty Sark. He went to Port Hobart and Port Victor. He spent much of his time deep sea, travelling between Australia, New Zealand and the UK. He finished his career as Master of the Horsa, a Sealink cross Channel ferry, operating out of Folkestone.

Dad loved the sea and lived close to it his entire life. He was captivated by its beauty and one of his favourite activities was to walk along the beach with his feet on the sand. We lost Dad in the summer of 2021 and are pleased to support the work of the RNLI in his memory.

John Grainger was my best friend's brother, and had he not drowned at sea, would have been a life-saver himself, as he was studying to be a doctor. He would have been an incredible doctor and know this because, although I never met him, his sister is an incredible teacher, and she means the world to me. Her favourite charity is the RNLI, for obvious reasons, and so for her 50th birthday, my wee family did the launch-a-memory in the name of her dear brother. Go save lives, and make John proud!

Eoin had Autism, Epilepsy and was non verbal and sadly past away in April 2017 after a 30 second seizure, he always had a beautiful smile and brought so much happiness into our lives and those he met. Fa served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War and rapidly climbed the ranks to Sub-Lieutenant . He excelled in all the exams he took, especially in Semaphore where he achieved 100%. He died on Christmas Day 2016 and is still very sorely missed. Love you always my precious.

I lost my father 41 years ago, just two years after his only grandson Iain, was born. Dad joined the Royal Navy at 17 as the 2nd World war began and rose quickly to Chief Petty Officer. He served on HMS Ajax in the Battle of the River Plate then became a sub mariner for the last three years of the war. He then ran a successful building business. A member of the RNA and keen sailor, dad's ashes were scattered at sea. His name is on the R on the Port side and he'd be thrilled as I am.

This is for my lovely Mum and Dad. Mum's brother, Danny Wheeler, served on HMS Naiad, but at just 21, he lost his life when the ship was sunk. I think this is part of the reason why they supported the RNLI throughout their lives. They knew that your crews are amazing, putting their lives on the line every time they go out. It's a privilege that their names have been included on the 44th Shannon Lifeboat. I'm glad their legacy has helped in some small way so that you can carry on your great work!

Philip went to Sea Training School at the age of 17 and, in his words, had 'gone round the world twice' before he was 18. In his middle years he joined the RNXS and his love of the sea continued. His ashes were lowered into the River Orwell in a biodegradable 'urn', with a rainbow in the sky above and by now, I hope, will have reached his beloved Medusa Channel. I know having his name on this lifeboat would mean so much to him, as it does to me. RIP my love xx

This is in memory of our loving grandma. Grandma passed in 2009, only having met one of her Great Grandchildren, Ella. Throughout her own Grandchildren’s life she was the most loving and giving lady. We spent long summer days playing at Grandma and Grandads house, eating treats, having tea parties in the shed and once even making a slide down the stairs with a mattress. Grandma just let us be. Dad joined the Royal Navy as a boy sailor at age 14. He served 35 years. He was part of the convoys that sailed to Murmansk during WWII. His final trip after retirement age was to be part of Operation Grapple to oversee the Nuclear tests at Christmas Island. He was the CPO on HMS Warrior one of the support ships a light aircraft carrier. He always said that the only charity he would support was the RNLI so in remembrance of him it was wonderful to be able to add his name to the Wells lifeboat

Well what can I say my dad built model boats and at every show he had a collection box for the RNLI, when he passed had his name added to the lifeboat. Then magic happened in June I saw the name of the lifeboat, I was named after prince Philip as I was born at midnight on the 10th June. My dads funeral was the day Prince Philip died, and when we were kids my dad always told us to say hello to a magpie if we saw one as we drove along. My she have a long and happy life RNLI 13-46 ❤️

Our dad loved the sea and would often visit the coast. They would both be so chuffed that they also share the boat with Duke of Ediburgh. They were both ex Fleet Air Arm (the flight side of Royal Navy!)

Pete was a lifelong leisure sailor, his father a Merchant Seaman in WW2. We always have supported RNLI and when our son and his friend were rescued off Hayling Island, during a racing competition, it hit home how needed they are! Our late mother had a silver RNLI medal for 45 years fundraising. Growing up we all pitched in to raise money for the Lifeboats: Flag Day, carol singing, Father's Day lunches for the village in our garden. Our parents met during World War II when Bernard Fox was a Naval Officer who fell in love with a Wren, Edith Barr, in 1943. Theirs was a love story which lasted for 70 years. The Fox family is delighted to commemorate their story on this special Duke of Edinburgh Lifeboat.

Anthony Chief Carey, joined the navy as a boy sailor aged just 15. He switched from ships to submarines He went from boy sailor to Chief Petty Officer in the silent service notching up 25 years service. He was married to Margaret and Pippa and had three children Jonathon, Sharon, and Amanda. Dad was the life & sole of any party, always had a good story! He has left a huge hole and is so much missed by family and friends, thanks Dad for everything, all the love you shared, watch over us all

As a child Peter explored the local Lincolnshire waterways on a homebuilt raft, using a fertiliser sack as a sail. He progressed to building small sailing boats when a teenager and in 1965 designed and built,at home, his ultimate yacht, Moby. With no inboard engine it was designed purely for the joy of sailing and over the last 40 years gave him that joy,in voyages to Europe, the Med, Scandinavia, the Orkneys and a 10,000 mile, year long. adventure across the Atlantic. Alex always gave money to the RNLI as he had so much respect for those willing to put their own lives at risk for others. Sadly he died very suddenly and far too young. His name on this lifeboat is something I think he would be truly proud of and I hope he, and all of the others remembered, will watch over the crew and keep them safe in their amazing work. Elliott and Archie make up the top part of the L on the wheelhouse of RNLB Duke of Edinburgh. They died in 2021 as a result of Twin To Twin Transfusion Syndrome and a placental infection in mum making Elliott’s lungs weak, along with other difficulties. My daughters Dad served with HM Boarder Force and after his short battle wuth cancer in 2021, he wished donations to be made to the RNLB. I wanted his name/ memory live on for our daughter and so donated and requested his name to be put on the boat. I hope this will bring comfort to our daughter, that he will be remembered while the boat helps others. Her dad enjoyed fishing at sea and helping anyone he could.

Walter F.W. Smith Derek Edward Smith

In loving memory of two wonderful brothers, both ex-seafarers, who worked 40+ years for British Rail/Sealink ferries in Dover. Walter a fireman on BR steam trains, transferred to become a CPO on the ferries. Derek an AB seaman, and in later years mooring staff. This occupation also enabled Derek to be available for any shouts during his 16 years’ service with Dover Lifeboat. Both loved their work and will be so proud to know the RLNI memorial will take them together out to sea once again.

My mother belonged to the RNLI Guild and helped out at the shop at Bembridge, IOW. We scattered her ashes at sea, at the end of the new Bembridge lifeboat pier. Mum was a staunch supporter of the RNLI all her life.

Adam James Moore Horn

Adam was an amazing guy who at 22 left us after 7 years battling Leukaemia, his great great granddad was Coxswain on the Exmouth lifeboat in the days when they had oars not motors so it seemed very fitting that his name be on the side of the new lifeboat. Adam was a true inspiration to everyone who knew him and he lived a very full life in his short time with us, we miss him every day and knowing his name is aboard the lifeboat is a wonderful thing!

Charles and Clive Washbrook

Remembering my father, Charles and my brother Clive, with so much love. You are both forever in my heart and you are truly missed every day. God speed to you and all those with you, on your new lifeboat xxx

Emily spent her whole life helping people, something she will continue to do, in spirit, on the boat, and there was nowhere she was happier than on a boat. A fitting tribute to a much missed mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend

Grandad was such an amazing man. A sailor in the Royal Navy so will be at sea once more! The kindest, loving funniest man who I'm so proud to have called my Grandad. He would be tickled pink to know his name is on a lifeboat. I miss him every day and hope one day I get to visit the lifeboat. Pictured with my lovely Nan the love of his life Rose, who we lost a few years previously. Enjoy sailing once again Grandad and in his words if you can't be good be careful 😂

Skipper Jumbo long

Jumbo sailed as Skipper out of Lowestoft, for fifty years he saileds mostly for Boston Deep Sea , then as Skipper owner , his ashes were scattered in the sea of Lowestoft , he wold be so pleased his name will be on the lifeboat on the sea which he loved all his life 😘😘

Alan Patrick Tideswell

Dad was a beloved husband and a devoted father, father-in-law and grandad, and we all miss him greatly. We know he would be honoured, proud and pleased to be remembered on RNLI 13-46, especially as it is dedicated to HRH Prince Philip, who served as Colonel-in-Chief of R.E.M.E Engineers; Dad was a regular soldier serving in Burma with the Corps in the 1950s. May Dad go in spirit and guide all the current and future Wells-next-the-Sea RNLI crew members, and God bless all those who sail on her.

Dad, we miss you so much but we know where to find you. Your spirit will always be at Wells, in the pine forest, at the harbour, on the island that we never did dare wade across to at low tide! You loved Wells and we have so many happy childhood memories of our holidays there with you. You were a supporter of the lifeboat and it brings us great joy to think of you stationed at the lifeboat house at Wells waiting to save lives. We love you Dad xxx
