I remember meeting Duncan Newlands on one of our many family holidays to Campbeltown many tear ago when I was just a kid. I'm now 60 but he obviously made such an impact on me as a boy that I can remember our meeting decades later. We were complete strangers to each other's but I remember he invited me into his home where he showed me his medal for his services to life-saving. I'm pretty sure it was an MBE.
