Ron Ventris
I lost my father 41 years ago, just two years after his only grandson Iain, was born. Dad joined the Royal Navy at 17 as the 2nd World war began and rose quickly to Chief Petty Officer. He served on HMS Ajax in the Battle of the River Plate then became a sub mariner for the last three years of the war. He then ran a successful building business. A member of the RNA and keen sailor, dad's ashes were scattered at sea. His name is on the R on the Port side and he'd be thrilled as I am.
