Our dad loved the sea. When he was a young man he served in the Royal Navy and over the years RNLI was very close to his heart. Seaside holidays as a child would always include a visit to the lifeboat station. Our dad would have been 90 this year so instead of flowers by a tree donating to a new lifeboat with his name included on the side seemed a better way to honour his life. I’m sure he would be super proud knowing that his memory will forever live on the ocean. Keep sailing dad ❤️

My Thys was never far from the sea, and happiest when in or alongside it, as a commercial fisherman at one stage, and as a keen shore angler until he died. My Dad loved boats and fitted out 2 for the Canal and later for the Shannon for 7 children. My Mother used to be terrified for us jumping down from deep locks and managing the ropes and locks at a young age but we loved it. Venture Too our boat was his pride and joy and flew the RNLI flag proudly. Safety on the waterways was priority and as a family we won a number of boat rallies for boat handling and rescues. We had opportunities to help other boats and swimmers in distress over the years.

My mother loved the sea. But being the daughter of a sailor she was also aware of the dangers. Her father, my grandfather was an engineer on board of the KNSM ships, the Royal Dutch Steamship Company. His career was finished when his boat, the S.S. Van Rensselaer, hit a naval mine in the harbour of IJmuiden at the beginning of the second world war. Fortunately the crew survived. I have never known my grandfather, but in his memory my mother has always been member of the Dutch rescue organization

My Dad was an angler. He loved nothing more than sitting on a riverbank. Because of that he taught us to swim at a very young age, to have respect for the water and for those who worked tirelessly to keep us safe whist we enjoyed it. We were taken to many Lifeboat Stations and put hundreds of pound in donation boxes with a little lifeboat and boat station. This was our childhood and that of his grandchildren. His Great-Grandson was only 14-month when Dad died - We with teach him that respect

In loving memory of our wonderful Dad, Captain Ken Waters (1930-2020). Born in Lowestoft in 1930, Ken was the proud son and grandson of trawler fishermen. Our dear son Conor tragically died in the engine room of the beam trawler he was working on in Newlyn, Cornwall on 15th November 2019. He was an apprentice engineer on the shore side and was only 20. We miss him so much everyday. He always supported the RNLI as his dad is a skipper on a beam trawler so this dedication means so much to us all. CHRISTOPHER JOHNSTON

Our son Christopher (37) died on 2nd April 2020, after a fall on 30th March 2020, without regaining consciousness. Our family has a long association with the sea and Christopher's deceased uncle was a volunteer on the Dun Laoghaire lifeboat for many years. Christopher was fun to be with and could talk for Ireland. Launch a Memory is a wonderful way to remember him and we are very proud that his name will appear on the Clifden Lifeboat as it goes to help people in the water. We miss you Chris.

Remembering our late brother Eddie Reilly (Gig) who unfortunately could no longer weather his storm. He died by suicide on December 28th, 2017. Having hailed from a family of seafarers he had a great love of the ocean. While he could not be rescued, it is comforting to know that his spirit will be present as the RNLI lifeboat embarks on saving many lives. He would be humbled to play a role in the crews heroic efforts in bringing those in peril safely home. A truly fitting memorial to his legacy.

My husband died at the age of 65, having been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Dementia 6 years earlier. We always said- ‘when we retire we’ll move to Norfolk to be near the sea’. It happened earlier than we thought, and not in the way we expected. But we had a few years enjoying life by the sea and supporting the RNLI- a strong passion of ours. Now , after scattering his ashes at sea, he will be going out on shouts helping others in trouble at sea.

He always supported the RNLI and they scattered his ashes in the sea as his friends and family stood on the headland at Trearrdur Bay in Wales. He will love bouncing around the seas with you and looking over your crews and keeping them safe. He sadly died too young on a blue sky day in April 2019. He is missed so much, this means so much.

Dad never did get his boat but he did get Portia and Olivia instead. According to Eve he thought that was more than a fair swap. In later life Dad worked for the “wavy navy” as he called it and greatly enjoyed not being able to walk on the grass at Yeovilton. Perhaps on his retirement he’d have been able to get his boat had lymphoma not led to his ridiculously premature death in 1999. At least with this donation we can all feel he’s got some way towards his boat in the end. We miss him.

Eddie spent a large part of his life as a volunteer for homeless charities, and he also was very keen supporter of the RNLI . Eddie was a kindly person and always willing to help a friend, or stranger. He was born in Campbeltown and had relatives who worked at sea. He was well aware of the dangers that those who work, or play at sea can face. He recognised that the RNLI was an essential service that saved lives. Eddie died of heart disease in the 18th March 2020.
