My grandad was amazing amazing, lovely, kind and respectful man and he sadly passed away in 2020 and he never got to meet my now 2 year old brother and I am now 12 nearly 13 my sister Keira and my dad Craig also my nanna ( Susan) and cousin Lucas basically everyone misses him but yes.

My Gran was Chair of the RNLI Ladies Guild in Bangor, Co. Down for many years and received a long service medal. Gran did pop up charity shops, made quilts to raffle and she involved the family in flag days. Gran and I spent a day fund raising on board the old Donaghadee lifeboat, the Sir Samuel Kelly, when it was 'moored' in the car park of the local shopping centre. This was the lifeboat that attended the Princess Victoria disaster & coxed by Hugh Nelson, my great, great uncle.

My late father sadly passed away with pancreatic cancer nearly 9yrs. ago. My late father's favourite hymn was " will your Anchor hold in the storms of life?" In memory of a wonderful Dad and Granda,he used to fix the Lifeboats in Buckie, he retired about 3x, he kept going back. He took pride in it and made alot of good friends with the crew. He lived life to the full doing so many crazy things at the ripe age of 77, bungee jumping, white water rafting, longest zip wire, Macau tower, to name a few, to raise money for charity, often he gave out his own pocket in memory of his wife.He had a heart of gold & this is a fitting tribute to him, Thankyou.

Retirement near the sea in Dorset meant, my parents, Joyce & Eric could watch the boats and see the work of the RNLI first hand regularly. With a flask of tea and a pair of binoculars they were set. They both decided to have their ashes scattered at sea and travel the world. Their surname being of Irish decent it seemed a good idea to have Grandma Joyce helping members of a wider family, as she enjoyed being helpful. We are proud that she can still so today.

Maurice Gilchrist (Big Mo)

In his younger years my dad was first in the military police then a lifeboatman in the merchant navy, he spent several years sailing around the globe. He loved to sail, one of my best weeks sailing was with my best friend and dad Big Mo. We lost him suddenly to a heart attack in 2013 aged 79. We love and miss him dearly. He would love being remembered on Clifden's lifeboat St Christopher going back out to sea.

Faye Mooney

Faye was 29 and worked in Nigeria as an aid worker when she and her boyfriend were shot and killed. She was a brave young woman and like the crew of the lifeboats, she wanted to make a difference. She was intelligent, kind and non-judgmental. In the aftermath of our grief we found support from the community on the South Harbourside of Weymouth in particular from involvement with the local RNLI fundraising team. Faye had happy childhood memories from family holidays in Ireland which is fitting.

Dad served in the Royal Navy for over 30 years and married Mum, his teenage sweetheart, in 1950. As social people they were always happy to share their time with their community and this was a wonderful way to commemorate their long, happy, life together. They loved to travel, and would be delighted that the St Christopher is based in Ireland. As long-term RNLI supporters they would have approved, and will also be having a heavenly giggle as Dad remained a seasick sailor his whole career!

My brother Derek spent many years at sea as an Engineer. He would be so proud having his name on the St Christopher and knowing that he would on the water saving lives. RIP Derek, miss you.

My husband, Charlie McBride, is one of the dedicated names. Originally from Donegal, he lived in Birmingham for many years but loved Cornwall where we often visited. In 2012 he helped to rescue a young girl who got swept off the rocks by a freak wave. He was always in awe of the wonderful work done by the RNLI.

I just thought it would be great to have my Dad's name on the new boat. He was the inspector of the Irish RNLI from after the war until 1954 when he became the Western District Inspector. Then he became the Deputy Chief Inspector and finally the Chief Inspector of the RNLI, retiring in 1975. He died in 2003.

Kate was a talented and respected Marine Biologist and Ocean Conservationist. Dedicated in her work to protect our oceans and marine life. Kate’s research was instrumental in forming a Marine Protected Area (MPA) around Ascension Island in August 2019. Sadly we lost our beautiful daughter the following year….. Kate is Loved and missed beyond measure by all those who knew her. To quote Kate…. “The sea is calling, and I must go.” Dive deep and swim free my beautiful Mermaid, Mama xx

Shay Cantwell was a funny, smart, gentle & loyal lad. He sadly drowned in Wildwood, NJ on 8th June 1996. He was 20 years old. Chris was our crazy, full of life brother who we lost to a drowning accident in 2019. He lived on a canal boat in Amsterdam and worked on the tour boats. He would always be there to help anyone that needed it. He loved living on the water, despite the number of times he'd fall in, it brought him peace. We returned his ashes to his beloved canals but feel that this is a fitting memorial for him in the UK.

When we knew that the Cancer treatment was not working, and we knew how things were going to end, my beautiful wife, Tina asked me to remember her! I was stunned! HOW COULD I ever forget her! So I learned to play a sing for her, returned to Newman College, Birmingham, to sing it in the old Common Room, where we first kissed on May 30th 1969! When I heard of Launch A Memory, it seemed another way to remember her! Thank you, RNLI, for helping me to keep my promise to remember Tina!

Dedicated to our Parents. We lost Dad in March 2020 and Mum in 2005. As a young man Dad always wanted to join the RNLI, when he was still living in Dundee, Scotland - we think this would have been the late 1940's or the 1950's but we are not entirely sure. He couldn't join as he lived too far away from the shore in Dundee at the time. He went on to serve in the Royal Navy in the 1950's on The Ark Royal; he always loved the sea. The RNLI was our chosen charity when Dad passed away.

Dad was on the St. Peter port , Guernsey lifeboat for 28 years working up from Rope hand to Chief Mechanic, as a child from 2 years to 30 I remember the times he went out to the rescues, my mother kept scrap books of all the rescues for 28 years, I now have them and there’s lots!! Dad died of throat cancer in 1998.

Dad was a proud lifeboatman in the 60's and 70's as second mechanic on Bridlington Lifeboat. Over 30 years since he passed, he would be delighted to know he is now back onboard. A different stretch of water but one family, RNLI.

Dad spent time with the sailors on the Thames barges from the age of 9yrs. He went in to serve in the Royal Navy during WW2 and the Merchant Navy after the war. He was a Coxwain of lifeboat crews in the 1960’s. This week Dad would have celebrated his 100th birthday and it was so moving to see the Lifeboat that now carries his name. Thank you RNLI for this opportunity to remember our loved ones in such a wonderful way. Dad always missed being at sea and now his memory will remain there again.

Mum always supported the RNLI being from a coastal family she was aware of how beautiful but unforgiving the sea could be. Mum loved to travel with many an unexpected adventure along the way but her favourite place was always by the sea. Our family holidays were always beach ones and we would often watch the lifeboat being launched. The thought she can ride the waves being there to help someone in their time of need is a fitting tribute to a much loved and remarkable woman.

My dad grew up in West Kirby on the Wirral where he was always around boats & the sea. He had dinghies, canoes, a catamaran & a snapdragon sailing boat. Family holidays always involved a boat & water. Dad liked the RNLI and I think he would of loved to of been part of a crew on a lifeboat. We lost dad in 2018 & miss him so much. I wanted his name on a lifeboat as the perfect tribute to a lovely special man who loved boats & the sea & can now be forever doing what he loved & part of the crew xxx

Glyn was a larger than life character with a personality to match, dearly loved by his wife Fiona & the rest of the his family. He was a great supporter of the RNLI & had many holidays touring the coast line trying to collect a named lapel badge at every station, often the four of us did together. His aim was to visit every station & was well over half way before he sadly died of cancer. Having his name on a RNLI boat is wonderful way to remember a much loved friend

My Mum and Dad were in the Navy, they met in Ireland when they were serving there. Mum died in 2017 aged 91 having suffered from Dementia with Lewy bodies, Dad cared for her, he died in 2020 at 96. John sadly lost his battle with Covid in December 2020 and Kerri lost his battle with Leaukaemia in 2003, grandad and grandson side by side. Loved and missed forever. It was always dad's wish to buy a lifeboat and have it named after his family, which was an unrealistic dream, but this is the next best thing.

I am incredibly proud that my grandfather's name will be on the new Clifden lifeboat. He lost his life on 6th February 1970 when the Lairdsfield sank just off the mouth of the Tees. 10 men died that terrible night despite the Herculean efforts of the RNLI, the Coastguards and the Royal Navy. On 6th Feb. 2020 I was honoured to speak at a memorial service for those lost 50 years earlier and humbled to meet and shake the hands of some of the brave men who tried to save them. Thank you.

Marcus Abudarham

Marcus was born in Wimbledon in 1980 and moved to Gibraltar at 6 months old. When he was eight he joined the swimming club and would train hard by swimming two or three miles every day. He loved the water. When he was 10 he became one of the youngest swimmers to complete the swim around the Rock of Gibraltar. He loved animals and eventually became a zoo keeper. I think he would have made a very good crew member with the RNLI as he was courageous & fearless. He is greatly missed everyday.

My father loved the sea; fishing and going out in his boat. He was a big supporter of the lifeboat and was often reminded by his grandchildren that his name was on the RLNI board at Conwy after he was rescued when his boat engine failed. When my dad died his ashes were scattered at sea by the Penarth lifeboat. Knowing his name was on the Clifden lifeboat would have been the most wonderful thing he could have imagined. He would be so proud to go out on a shout with the Clifden crew.

There were never enough days in the week for John. So much to do, so many people to see, he lived his best life, embraced the journey and reached his sudden destination far too soon. His personality, too big to be confined to a grave, this is the perfect way to honour our Dad. We will take comfort knowing that his spirit, his positivity, determination, intuition and energy will now also be with this boat and crew each time they launch.

Our grandad was a Radio Officer at Sea on various Ships. When he came back to Ireland he was Superintendent of the Lakes ~ Lough Mask, Lough Carra & Lough Corrib & in later years worked with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA Water Section) He always had a love of water but also had so much respect for our waters. He was a boat man for World Cup angling competitions as he knew the lakes like the back of his hand! Launch A Memory Is the perfect was to honour his memory. Love you Grandad ♥️

Madge Rolfe was a wonderful, warm and caring little lady of 103 years old. As well as my Mum, she was also a much loved Nana and G . Nana. Mum supported the RNLI for many years, we think it is very fitting that her name should be added to the new lifeboat in celebration of her long, and well lived life.
