Marj (Mum) always felt at home in the water, and as a schoolgirl, she swam competitively for her home town of Coventry. She ensured that all four of her children, and other members of her family, were taught to swim. She was a keen supporter of the RNLI, especially after she moved to the coast, to live in Mablethorpe. She would be proud to know that her name was on a lifeboat, and to support those bravely saving the lives of others. She will always be loved and missed ❤️

Rodney Harris

Rod was a wonderful husband, Dad and Grampy. He was patient and kind with a smile and a "how do" for everyone! He loved being on the water from a young age as a Sea Scout, then taught his children to canoe on the riverways around Oxford and on family holidays. He was still having a go in a Canoe in the Lake District at the ripe old age of 83! He supported the RNLI regularly in later years. He will be greatly missed but remembered with love in all our hearts.

Our beloved son Michael died tragically aged 39. He was taken from us in 2016, far too soon. Michael was ex services (RNAS) and loved being at sea. He was such a lovely man and is missed by family and friends so much, especially his daughter. To have his name on the Whitby lifeboat will be a wonderful memorial and one which we can visit. Forever loved, forever missed. xx

My beautiful parents were taken far too early in April and June 2021! They are missed beyond measure but loved for eternity. Dad was a massive supporter of the RNLI and would always tell people how amazing all the volunteers are for what they do on a daily basis. My Dad was a lifeboat in Whitby and loved every moment even the tough rescues during the night but probably the Wednesday socials more! I remember running through town many times on a shout and waiting at the station or going up to grandads pigeon loft. Dad loved the sea for many reasons his big passion was diving and unfortunately in 1994 he had an accident while diving off whitby his fellow crew mates had to attend with the worst outcome for all of us he couldn't be saved .xx

Jen Whitehead

Throughout Jen's relatively short life she spent her time in support of others. She had wished that following her passing her organs be donated but unfortunately this was not possible. Jen spent many fun years with her sister on our boat and this opportunity is a way of enabling her to fulfil her wish of helping to save the lives of others.

In loving memory of Tom Fowler. He loved swimming and the sea. He volunteered to join up when he was 19 before conscription started and served on HMS Cleopatra during the Malta convoys. Pat and Ernie were the most amazing parents, grandparents, that anyone could have wished for, now missed by all their family. My dad died 26 years ago and he’s missed every day. He loved the sea and was a merchant seaman for many years so his name on an RNLI lifeboat is a perfect way to remember him. He passed from cancer which takes too many people. We lived in the north east and I remember how we often visited Whitby for days or weekend trips. I now live in Brixham, Devon by the sea and watch the RNLI lifeboat going out so every time I watch it, I’ll think of the Whitby boat, and in turn, my dad. Thank you.

We met George and his wife Cathy in 1995 at the 1st birthday celebration of their grandchild Cameron. We were immediately struck by his warm, friendly personality and I'm pleased to say that as the years went by, these traits and the unmistakable twinkle in his eye never altered. His interest in current affairs was well known and one of my earliest memories of him was his effortless ability to complete the most difficult cryptic crosswords. RIP George, it was such a pleasure to know you.

Nola's greatest quality was the boundless love and kindness she showed to not just her family, but to everyone she knew. She had an indomitable and lively spirit, seen here in the photograph as she takes her brand new bicycle for a spin to celebrate her 90th Birthday! Nola was a much loved and respected Mother and Nana to 4 generations and was the matriarch and heart of her large family. Our mum Angela loved the sea, grew up on the south coast, and supported RNLI throughout her life. In her final years in Yorkshire she enjoyed visiting Whitby and Sandsend for the sea air, scenery and, of course, fish and chips and ice cream. She loved taking her grandchildren to the seaside at Scarborough, showing them the donkeys and lifeboat station. She brought comfort to many, and we're delighted her name will be on the new lifeboat at Whitby as it saves lives and reunites loved-ones.

Rodger sailed out of Scarborough for over 27 years and we sailed up to Whitby many many times before he died in 2005. He taught many people to sail through practical and shore based courses and loved the sea weather calm or stormy. We still miss him terribly.

George Benjamin Bates

A loving Dad, Husband and Grandpa who had a sense of adventure and loved the outdoors. He also loved a bottle or two of Keo beer while sat in the sun on the terrace in Cyprus. He may have Travelled away but he was always a true Yorkshire man at heart.

Mary Halliwell

Mary joined the Brighouse RNLI guild in 1943 and did door to door/street collections for over 40 years. In the 1980s RNLI asked Mary to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace. Donning her Sunday best (with a hat of course), Mary with husband Ken set off for a special day in London. Unfortunately, just before the Queen arrived, the heavens opened in spectacular fashion, and everyone (except her majesty of course) got soaked. Mary received an RNLI 50 year long service award in Leeds City Hall.

Steven Heaney

My husband was a supporter of RNLI for many years, he would love having his name on the Shannon life boat. As a family we knew this is what we wanted to do for Steve, he would choose to help RNLI instead of funeral flowers and this is a wonderful way to remember him and save lives at sea. We love and miss everyday, but take some comfort he has been able to help RNLI in some way.

Arthur Saunders

My grandad was a veteran of the Royal Navy who served in on the Artic Convoys in WW2, he was awarded the DSM for not leaving his gun position for 36 hours whilst under attack. His last posting before being de-mobbed was on HMS Victory. After the War he returned home and moved to Bridlington. After my grandma died in 1962, he came to live with us, and he was my influence in wanting to join the Royal Navy which I never did much to my regret (my fault) and my love of football. Missed every day.

Chris was our Dad we called him Pops and he lived in Whitby for over 20 years with our Mum Janice Gledhill. Together they ran Prospect Villa hotel and they were Mayor and Mayoress of Whitby twice. They have a street named after them Gledhill Drive and our Dad was a supporter of the Sea Cadets and even drove their mini bus.He would be very proud to have his and Mums name on the Whitby lifeboat in their memory.

Janice Gledhill

My mum Janice lived in Whitby for over 20 years she was married to our Dad Chris Gledhill and together they ran Prospect Villa hotel. They were also Major and Mayoress of Whitby twice and have a street named after them in Whitby Gledhill Drive. My mum supported the life boat service and would be so pleased to be on this new boat. She passed away this year in 2022 and we miss her so much and love the thought her name will be on the lifeboat in her memory.

Rose Major

Rose was a much loved and respected mother, and wife of Whitby born Harry Major. She made her home in Whitby, which she called her 'forever holiday home'. Her life and work in Whitby was well known and her loyalty to her family was an inspiration, she is sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Brian Watts

Brian lived by the sea all his life, further up the coast at Seaton Sluice. He loved the coastline of the U.K. and all it’s rich history. We lost Dad suddenly in 2021 and we are proud to support the RNLI in his name. His name is already on the Wells lifeboat.

Dawn Alison Hodgson

I asked Dawn to marry me overlooking Whitby harbour in September 1990. After 24 years of happy marriage, we learned Dawn had incurable cancer. Whitby is a special place for us and we had and still have lots of happy memories there. We wanted to remember Dawn in a special way. I didn’t want to leave Dawn alone in Whitby, so I have made a donation for my name to be side by side with Dawn. I’m hope our two daughters Sophie and Katie will smile whenever they see Whitby lifeboat in years to come.

David Charles Taylor

David loved Whitby and spent as much time there as he could. He was very interested in the work of the RNLI and the vital job it does.

Charlie Cocks

My father was Charlie Cocks, a volunteer with Redcar RNLI for 54 years. He joined as a crew member in 1948 and was the last volunteer to hold the post of signalman at Redcar. On leaving the crew he became a launching authority and finally he was the lifeboat station's admin. officer. He would be chuffed to bits to know he (or at least his name) was about to go to sea on a lifeboat stationed so close to home!

Henry Simpson Major

He was always know as Harry Major and he and his brother Bert had Major's Bakery on Church St., Whitby. He was born, brought up and lived his whole life in Whitby except for the war years when he served overseas for King and country. He loved Whitby and this is a wonderful memorial to that love.

GILLEAN H B SANGSTER

Gillean's family returned from London to the east coast of Scotland when she was a teenager and she always related to the sea, though we - as a family - never lived by the sea. She was particularly attached to supporting the Lifeboats - and this contribution is in her memory.

Albert Davies

As well as having family in Whitby to visit, Albert enjoyed sailing with a friend and would make the journey down the coast to Whitby. He was taken from us suddenly, and too soon. The Lifeboat Crew at Whitby very kindly took flowers from his funeral and scattered them at sea.

Stephen Dudley

We didn't know each other as children but when we met we discovered both our families spent early childhood holidays in Whitby. We both felt an affinity to Whitby and made many visits there together. I thought it would be a great way to remember my late husband Stephen with a place that held precious memories for both of us. Such a good cause too.

My wife, who died last year, was a life long supporter of the RNLI and I am proud to have her name inscribed on the Whitby life boat. Her name already rides with the Wells next the Sea lifeboat and I am proud of that too.

Luke was a loving son who always loved the sea. He was brought up in Skegness but loved to travel. Living in Phi Phi he became a qualified diving instructor before eventually settling down in Sydney. He lived by the saying "Dream it, Live it" He died aged 33. Never to be forgotten and forever in our hearts, love Mum and Dad x
