Papa Don as we fondly knew him told us many stories of his time in the Navy. Don loved all kinds of boats, he liked nothing more than taking us and his grandchildren down to Bristol Docks to show us the boats, liners, submarines that were there. His knowledge was incredible and we never tired of listening to him. We sadly lost him in March 2019 after a short illness. You are missed dearly each and every day by your family. Your Girl xxxxxx

George Andrew Carroll

This boat's operational number is RNLI 13 - 43. Our brother George drowned in an accident when he was 13 years old (43 years ago). The accident happened while playing with his friend, who fell into a local reservoir. George's friend couldn't swim, but George could. He jumped into the water to save his friend, and managed to get him to the side of the bank and to safety. Unfortunately the current was very strong and pulled George back into the water, and he got his legs caught in the reeds.

A former fighter pilot in the RAF and retired Captain of 747’s for BA and Virgin, my lovely dad left us in June 2020. Dad was from Inish Bigil Island Co Mayo, he was a huge supporter of many charities. Kind , caring he was very much a gentleman and a very gentle man. A man called Jerry Early wrote a song called I'll Go about the Aranmore lifeboat crew he loved it and it was played as we left the church for his final resting place. Jerry invited dad to Aranmore for the unveiling of the tribute to those men who went to the plight of the Stolich he felt honoured. Dad always thought of others before himself .

My Mum, Ann Sherri Brown.

Unfortunately cancer took my mum away from me when I was 10 years old. My mum was always helping others, wether it be fund raising, visiting people, saving people (she was a qualified lifeguard) etc etc. By being able to add her name to the lifeboat her memory can live on and still help save lives. I will never get over loosing my mum but I have found peace and happy to support the RNLI so thank you.

My little brother, Brian, loved going to Tramore beach every summer when we were small. To tease him, as older sisters do, I used to tell him that the Waterford city bridge would break as we drove over it, plunging us all into the water. Putting his name on the outside of the new RNLI Rescue boat is a special way we can commemorate him. I miss you so, so much, Brian.

Charles ‘Flinters’ Flynn

Charles or Charlie as he always preferred to be known died aged 90 in 2019. He was half Irish and a great supporter of the RNLI so it seemed fitting to donate in his memory for a lifeboat based in Ireland. Love and miss his so very much every single day xx.

Known as ‘Uncle’ Robert to so many of us – his ‘children’. Born 10/05/1924, died 29/11/2018. Married to Mary Margaret Calder (Auntie Mamie) on 08/08/1951 and forever devoted to her. Travelled to Trincomalee (Sri Lanka) with the RAF. Worked in the Royal Dockyards in Rosyth, Pembroke and Chatham. Elder of the Church of Scotland. Hobbies included supporting Gillingham and Dunfermline football clubs, reading, going to the theatre in Edinburgh and golf. Lifelong supporter of the RNLI.

My splendid brother achieved so much in his 43 years, but we’re especially proud of the legacy he left in restoring the Liverpool class lifeboat ‘Chapman’ for Hoylake Lifeboat Museum. Every detail was painstakingly and accurately recreated over many long months in a cold, draughty shed - we know, because we kept getting roped in to help! Jon’s beloved ‘Chapman’ is now on display at Lytham St Anne’s Windmill. This dedication is to mark his 50th birthday.

Dad retired to Holt in Norfolk and immediately joined the RNLI as a shoreline member. Already in his late 70s, Dad always supported the work of the Institution and regularly visited the stations at both Sheringham and Cromer. He also attended the launch of the new Cromer lifeboat, which was conducted in the presence of the Duke of Kent. It is fitting that his name can now be included for the launch of the new Clifden Lifeboat, in due course.

I was a little girl when on holiday with my family in Cornwall and my dad took me to see one of the lifeboats. He told me that the people sailing in these boats are very brave and I could tell he had such a lot of admiration for them. It made an impact on me so much that every time I see a lifeboat I think of my dad who passed away in 2013. I am very happy to remember him this way and on what would have been his 97th birthday today.

It has been the 40th anniversary of my mum's death this year. She loved the west coast of Ireland and we spent some lovely holidays there. Her grandson, whom she never knew, now builds the wonderful Shannon lifeboats in Poole so it seemed very fitting to remember her this way. In memory of my grandfather, a man I never met but feel I know through my mother's stories and memories of him. He was a seaman all his life, but he was lost in the Irish Sea in November 1940, due to enemy action. His loss is the reason the RNLI saving lives at sea, means so much to me. No one could have saved him, but others can be saved. I know how much that means to so many people.

Our Mum & Dad both passed away within 10 weeks of each other in late 2018. It was such a sad year for us to lose the very foundation of our lives & the two people who loved us so wonderfully. Our consolation is they were together & never apart. We miss them dearly but we know we will see them again. They both were devoted to the RNLI & Irish Lifeboats so this is the perfect way to honor their memory. As an Island, everyone in Ireland should donate to this service - its such a vital service.

Captain John Woollen

John was a cadet in HMS WORCESTER, and passed out as Chief Cadet Captain. He was a Deck Officer with P&O from 1950 for over 20 years, also Royal Naval Reserve. He loved the sea and ships until his death in 2016. As a lifelong member of the RNLI, he would be SO pleased to know his name was on a lifeboat. I was also at sea with P&O as an Assistant Purser and that was how I met him in 1958.

John Boy Coyne

John would be very pleased to have his name added to this lifeboat, he admired the work that these volunteers do and being an ex Merchant seamen understands the dangers faced at sea. John always to donated to the RLNI through his Masonic connections and loved letting us all know that The Zetland (based in Redcar) is the oldest surviving lifeboat in the world. We also have a strong family connection to Redcar. Be safe, all, when she finally launches.

My amazing son launched a Save our Coastline Facebook page during the pandemic with 4000 followers helping to clean the beaches of Dorset. He sadly passed away on the 23rd July aged 27 years old. Forever loved. Forever young.

Val (Mum) would be delighted to know that her name lives on with the RNLI and that she is helping to save lives at sea. She loved the sea but knew it’s perils too. Her father, Leslie Bawler, was a Royal Navy Officer and was bosun on the Moyana on its return to the UK after it won the 1st Tall Ships Race in 1956. During a fierce storm it took on water and sadly sank. Thankfully all lives on board where saved.

For many years they sailed their beautiful Kittiwake boat with friends at Chichester & Mylor. Hence why a dedication on the RLNI boat is so appropriate. May it help those in need.

Jimmy’s career was in the Royal Navy where he sailed all over the world. He joined in 1952 and attended the St Vincent naval college in Portsmouth. He helped to collect funds to build the Mark Mason lifeboat at Angle, Pembroke. The plaque was unveiled by the Duke of Kent and my brother The Rev. Brian Thomas dedicated the boat before it was launched. We were present in the station at the launch. His family are from Ireland and it would be an honour and fitting for his name to be on the Shannon.
