Carl Jones (1954 - 2019)

Carl. A much loved and missed son and brother with an outlook on life that endeared him to everyone.He was a self taught artist, with a wicked sense of humour.He had a great rapport with animals and liked going to the horse races. He enjoyed going to town daily to have a coffee (or 2 or 3) and loved chatting to everyone he met.Whenever he went on holiday he always visited the RNLI station and purchased items from their shop. It was a cause close to his heart and featured in some of his artwork.

In memory of my loving husband, Ray always supported the RNLI in their excellent dedication to all lives at sea. Ray loved Cornwall and he would visit and make a donation to many shops and lifeboat stations. Missed so much.

That is why as a family we are proud to support RNLI and make this dedication in your memory. We are proud your name is emblazoned on the side of RNLI’s Shannon lifeboat.

In memory of my beloved husband who was a passionate sea angler , who on several occasions had the fishing boat the was on, diverted to assist a rescue in the English Channel, he and his friends never minded as they totally believed in the work of the RNLI. You went to sea at only 13 on the whale boats in the Antarctic then as a silver service waiter on the cruise ships before enjoying married life on cruises with mum. My darling dad. We weren’t ready to say goodbye to you when you decided to go. But we know as hard as it was you were ready for your next adventure. A merchant navy seaman and Mariner all his life. He was most at home at Sea. He loved his family - beloved Barb and his two girls Sarah and Lucy. He was the best Son, brother husband, dad, And grandad you could ever wish for. Joan Margaret Compton (Mum)

Joan was a very active person and very much the matriarch of the family, she loved to holiday by the sea whether in the UK or farther afield. She took ill in her early eighties suddenly which led to her suffering from Vascular Dementia for the final three years of her life, during this time she managed one last holiday with her son in North Devon. Joan is missed greatly and thought of all of often, she was a best friend as well as a loving mother.

Florence Joan Verney was always called Joan. She was born in August 1918 and dies October 2016. She was a much loved Mum, Grandma and Great Grandma ( GG). She was always full of life and in her younger days loved sailing with her family. She liked to live life and on her 80th Birthday even drove a tank. My son Nathan liked her journey to a train journey with various important stops alone the way. We thought this was a lovely way to remember her life.

My Grandad served during WWII, and survived the sinking of the Derrycunihy off Sword beach. He was rescued from the water, and so it seemed fitting to add his name to the Shannon class vessel. I recognise his bravery, as I do that of every RNLI crew member.

My Grandma always gave me her RNLI magazine to read when I visited her as a kid. I never knew until much later that she was a supporter because her brother Billy drowned at sea off South Wales when he was just 15. Grandma recalled her father bringing his body home by horse and cart (it was 1907). There was no lifeboat on that coast at the time. I am so proud to support the RNLI and I say 'Godspeed' to the crew of Agness A P Barr.

Bill Eatch (Lofty)

When I first saw this advertised, I didn’t hesitate to add my Dad’s name to such a wonderful cause. He had been in the Navy during the cod wars and had started a travelling bug that never went away. He used his training as an electrical engineer to travel the world. He was also in the Navy bands and obviously being tall played the bass drum. Sadly, he had dementia but always retained his sense of humour. I miss him dearly. He wasn’t grumpy in the photo just didn’t like his photo taken. Xxxxxxx

Keith loved the sea, he always wanted to live by the coast and when the opportunity arose we moved to within a two minute walk of beach. He was an avid bird watcher and sea watching was one of his favourite past times. He passed away in New Zealand when we were visiting our youngest son and family, our eldest son came over to New Zealand and we were able as a family to let the ocean take his ashes, just as he would have wanted. He always had great respect for the RNLI.

For our dad, grandad, husband, brother. For many years he worked for Plessey, Marconi, Vickers, and Shell on navy ships, submarines, and oil rigs. He was a man who loved the sea but who had a huge respect for it, those who work at sea, and of course was a huge supporter of the RNLI and their work.

He had an everlasting love and respect for the sea after he was conscripted into the Royal Navy. He was shipwrecked at the age of 15 ( first trawler trip) off the coast of Norway and spent Christmas with a lovely family. He spent some time in the Merchant Navy -for the rest of his life he was a proud supporter of the RNLI. My father loved the sea and ships. His spent his summer holidays back in the 1920s and 30s in Fleetwood where his uncle was a trawler skipper in World War Two he served in the Royal Navy mainly on boom defence duties. Though he did catch malaria in West Africa and towed a section of the mulberry harbour across the channel shortly after D Day. He would be tickled pink to think that his name is on the side of a lifeboat.

Mervyn Gaston

In loving memory of Mervyn “Jack” Gaston 1941-2019. Mervyn was a keen supporter of the RNLI, he would often say “you never know when you might need a lifeboat”. Mervyn was a qualified engineer and later an author and photographer, he spent much of his spare time pursuing his passion around the coast, photographing tugs and writing about the towage industry. Mervyn was also an accomplished model tug and lifeboat builder. A devoted husband, dad, and grandad – much missed by the whole family

John Edward Mason

This memorial is a fitting tribute to an amazing husband, dad and grandad, John Edward Mason, taken from us in January 2018. He lived in Nottinghamshire all his life and loved fishing. He thoroughly enjoyed deep sea fishing and would go out to sea when he could from various locations around the UK. He was a kind and caring man who would always help others and so we are delighted that supporting RNLI in his memory will serve to help others.

In memory of a much loved Dad, Granddad and Great-granddad who passed away one year ago, aged 94. Although he lived in the Midlands all his life, many miles from the sea, he was a long time supporter and fundraiser for the RNLI. He always enjoyed his holidays on the coast and would be very pleased to have his name on the lifeboat at Invergordon, going out to save lives at sea. Thanks to the RNLI for enabling us to maintain his connection with the lifeboats and to remember him in this way.

Despite living his whole life in landlocked Birmingham, my Dad always loved the Sea, and spent nearly all his holidays in Cornwall. As my mum Edna died just as he retired, he spent his retirement years as an RNLI Governor and always took part in any RNLI Collection Day.
