So my dedication is that he lived by the sea and help protect our seas and now he will still be doing this aboard the Exmouth RNLI boat even though he is no longer with us.

He was a keen yachtsman having owned and moored his boat in Poole before moving it to Weymouth. He sailed all the way around the UK back in 2006 making many stops at different ports. He just loved the ocean and this just seems the perfect way to honour his life, him and the kind man he always was. He would love to know he’s help save lives at sea.

Our Dad was very proud to have served in the Royal Navy during WW2. He would have been 100 years old on 2nd June 2025 and we wanted to mark the occasion in some way. He knew only too well the perils of the sea and how brave the men and women of the RNLI are. My dad was a lifelong supporter of RNLI and wore his lifeboat baseball cap proudly. Every holiday or day trip he would visit a lifeboat station to have a look around and make his donation. As a family we have continued this tradition. Various family members still continue to wear one of his many lifeboat baseball caps, myself included. I think he would be very quietly pleased that his name is attached to a lifeboat that along with its crew will continue to save lives.

Steve was my life, my love, my passion. He was the most amazing dad to our 5 children, & had the biggest, kindest heart &adventurous spirit. He loved rugby and volunteer for our son’s club. He encouraged our family on two 70 mile canoeing expeditions. But his passion was Scuba diving. As a TDI technical instructor he shared his love of the sea to so many people. His scuba network was worldwide and he was so loved. But the sea claimed him, kept him, and now we are lost. I Love you always.

Dad spent hours trying to teach me to swim! I remember him floating on the water and falling asleep, whilst practiced in the pool. Dad loved sailing his laser dingy on the reservoir. Proudest moment was finding out he was part of the rescue team there as well. He also helped in the building of the Tenacious. He is very much missed

Robert was saved by the RNLI and the coastguard helicopter off the coast of east Antrim in 1986. Despite being a GP he was a frustrated sailor and took such pleasure from the sea and all things maritime.

Derek Woodhouse

Derek Woodhouse, of Chesterfield died in December 2024 aged 81. Derek’s passions include classic cars (especially MGs), gardening, photography, football and archery and above all - family. He was a member of Derwent Bowmen Archery Club for 48 years earning love and respect. At his funeral his coffin was carried under the traditional longbow arch and archers have also donated to his preferred charity, the RNLI, by including his name on the roof of the Exmounth launch.

My mother was left to bring up 3 boys aged 5,9 and 11 respectively after her husband David was drowned. He was a member of the crew of 8 of the Mona which was lost with all hands on the 8th.December 1959. This tribute remembers those left behind who were left to look after the family through many difficult times for many years after the disaster.

My father was a member of the crew of the Broughty Ferry Lifeboat which capsized on the 8th.December 1959 with all 8 crew members lost. The North Carr lightship crew were in danger of being swept onto the rocks and the Mona was launched during a raging gale. This memory was donated by his granddaughters Claire and Laura on the 65th.anniversary of the disaster.

My dedication is to my amazing Mum & Dad twice a year would collect from all the local villages surrounding Barton-Le-clay where we lived. 2 weeks throughout lifeboat collection time then again at Christmas. As well as fundraising events throughout the year. We would often visit HQ . In 1974 they went to Buckingham Palace RNLI Garden Party 150 Anniversary. It is wonderful that I was able to have my Dads name on Shannon Lifeboat as he was never happier than when he was at sea.

Ray was in the Royal Navy from January 1969 to June 1992 and he loved it. He visited so many countries and we have albums of photos from his journeys! We were very proud of him for ‘doing his bit for Queen and Country’.He passed away on 15th October 2024 very unexpectedly and we miss him greatly.

Lynda and I are cousins and children of seafaring people of Anstruther, Fife and Newhaven, Midlothian. My family has a history of being on the sea and members were associated with Lifeboats i Harwich, Essex. They we're also in the Royal Navy, one being a Senior Officer on the Naval Training ship HMS Eagle. My father was a CPO Artificer in the Royal Navy and worked as a trawler engineer out of Granton and Leith. Also in my genealogy is a Royal Marine boy Drummer.

MY Dad loved the sea. His sea career started on the paddle steamers, hopping along the south coast in 1950s. He then joined the Merchant Navy and sailed the world on various ships including The Queen Mary. We had many sailing adventures around Europe on his 26ft yacht, often needing the help of the RNLI. My donation, marking his recent passing on Boxing day 2024, is more of a debt repayment, rather than a charitable donation! Rest in Peace Dad. Thanks for all the trauma inducing adventures!! XXX

My dad loved the sea and boating. He rowed for Poplar and Blackwall Rowing Club, participated in events with the Sail Training Association aboard the Malcom Miller and whilst I’m sure he would have loved a boat of his own, he did manage to sail at every opportunity with friends. He was a long time supporter of the RNLI, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

My mother was born close to the sea, in Thorpeness, Suffolk. She felt an affinity with it and following the outbreak of WW2 volunteered for the WRNS. It was while serving as a Wren she met my father. Later, family holidays were often spent in Devon, usually Exmouth.

My father joined the Royal Navy in 1943, aged 17 and often described it as the best time in his life. Through it he met my mother who was a Wren. Though afterwards he had to live and work far from the sea he always felt an affinity with it. Family holidays were often spent in Devon, usually Exmouth.

My kind and gentle Dad died October 2024 at the grand old age of 98. He is missed more than words can say, but it’s of comfort to know I’m able to make this donation to a cause that meant a lot to him. He often said that if he won a lot of money he’d buy a lifeboat for the RNLI, but that opportunity never arose. Instead, to have his name on a lifeboat means a lot to the family and I, as he was a much loved father, grandfather and great grandfather. xxx

James Norman Hogan

My son James began training at Dartmouth Naval College when he was 19 yrs old. Within a short time he was diagnosed with Crohns' Disease and had to choose a different career path. He then gained a BA at Portsmouth University. Sadly, James passed away on 23rd January 2023, six days after his 49th birthday. He would have been delighted to have his name connected to the RNLI and for his dream to go to sea be realised.

My father, aged 42, gave his life to save two people in trouble in the sea. My mother witnessed the whole tragedy. She lived for another 42 years, making a life for herself from the ashes of the tragedy. Tony was never forgotten and much missed. In September 2024, my lovely mother passed on from the this world, and in November, was buried with and finally reunited with, her beloved Tony. My darling parents are together again. May they rest in peace 🙏 always loved, always remembered, in love.

My Dad loved the sea. It began with accompanying his friend Tony on the fishing boats out from the Wash, with his leg in plaster from his hip to his foot back in the sixties, and the enjoyment he got from those expeditions never left him. Holidays would always be spent by the sea, notably in East Runton where my Mum would religiously march us all up to the Cromer Lifeboat station to admire the lifeboat and chat with other visitors and crew. You'll be back at sea soon Dad x

My dad was an RNLI supporter for many years. In the Royal Navy for 27 years he held a deep respect for the sea, aware of its awesome power. I grew up on the south coast and have spent years, both club sailing in small boats and offshore racing in yachts so have a similar respect for the sea. When dad died in 2010 I chose to support the RNLI in his memory happy to continue something he believed in.
