Our Dad sadly passed away three years ago from Covid. He was a RNLI supporter and he also spent a lot of time in Exmouth while he was at University in Exeter, so adding his name to this lifeboat in memory of him feels very fitting. Whether he was walking on the beach, swimming and playing in the sea or on his boat he was always happy on or near the water. He is greatly missed by the three of us.

Alexander Ross Stewart

An RNLI lifeboat was launched in the middle of the night on 22nd January 1939, to rescue the SS Wilston - which was in severe difficulties during a force 10 WNW storm. Tragically, 6 members of the lifeboat crew died and the SS Wilston was wrecked with no survivors. Alexander Ross Stewart was the Wilston's Master.

Lucy Jayne McElderry

When my sister was diagnosed with terminal cancer, her wishes were to be set free in water in as many places as possible. Having her name on the Lifeboat means a little part of Lucy is always on the water but saving lives too - something she would have wanted. Her strength, courage, bravery but most importantly her smile, sense of humour and good nature will be missed by all of us. There is not a day goes by where we do not think of her and the massive whole she has left behind in our hearts.

Ronald Taggart

Dedicated to Grandpa Ronald Taggart, a man who knew about saving lives at sea. Serving as a telegrapher in the Royal Navy, he was one of the few survivors of the HMS Spartan sinking off Italy in 1944. He was rescued from the water. In 1950s, he received an award from the Royal Humane Society for diving into the River Blyth in Northumberland and swimming to the aid of a nine-year-old girl, saving her from drowning.

George Chalmers

Jim Chalmers and George Irving went out to fish the sea on 13th December 1961after putting up the Xmas decorations at home. My father George Chalmers was soon to discover that the boat had gone down after evidence of it hitting a body, splitting the boat in half. George's father(my grandfather) was never found. My great uncle George was found 11 months later. Despite this tragedy, George built two boats of his own and spent many good times out catching shrimps. George is now 95. Love from Fiona

For 55 years mum hated being on water. We couldn't believe it when she finally found her sealegs (seafeet) when she met Roger and started going sailing with him! The world has been so much duller with far less giggling since she's been gone. We miss her every single day 💜

Ernie spent his whole life fishing as a skipper in Brixham. Sadly, his wife Wendy, his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren miss him. If we could visit heaven, even for a day, maybe for a moment, that pain would go away. We would put our arms around you, and whisper words so true, that living life without you is the hardest thing to do. No matter how we spend our days, no matter what we do, no morning dawns, or evening falls when we don't think of you. We always love you xxx

Andy was born and bred in Exmouth. He loved anything to do with being on the water. He started a water taxi service; was co-founder of Exmouth rowing club; built and raced sailing craft, worked with the RNLI and Trinity House. A brilliant seaman and navigator. As you view the picture my dad Joseph (left) served Royal Navy survived WW2 along with Jack a Royal Marine, Frank died in WW2 served Royal Navy he was involved in the 1st battle of the Atlantic he died when his last ship HMS Bonaventure was sunk by an Italian submarine in 1941.

My Dad Andrew passed suddenly by drowning last year, whilst on holiday in Crete last October. It was a massive shock as he was young, healthy and a great swimmer. He loved the RNLI and signed up to them years ago whilst on holiday in Tenby. He is so very loved and missed. The ocean and sailing played a very big part in Mark’s life. From early dinghy sailing he progressed to windsurfing, then yachts, representing Great Britain in the Commodore’s Cup, and paddle boarding. Always keen to go wave jumping he had a 20knot rule which dictated he left work if there was a blow to go windsurfing at Hill Head. Supporting the RNLI from dinghy days, it is fitting Mark will join the Exmouth Crew when out in a blow. Taken far too soon, you will never be forgotten.

Michael Baker

Michael stayed with his grandparents (Mr and Mrs Edwards) in North Street, Exmouth at times during WWII, to be away from the blitz of Plymouth. Michael was a Police Officer in Plymouth City Police (PC 289) and the. In Devon and Cornwall Constabulary (PC 1389) when the forces amalgamated. He retired in 1986 and died in August 2018 aged 84.

Rev'd Mike Vincer

Mike was Chaplain to both the RNLI team at Exmouth and the Missions to Seafarers during the 1980's and early 1990's.
