NORMAN SANDFORD FISHER 1924-2019

Dad spent much of his childhood and adolescence on the coast of Wirral around Meols, Moreton, Holylake. As an adult he had a small sailing ship there. Several times he braved rough seas to rescue swimmers in difficulty. For this he was awarded the Bronze Medal of the Royal Humane Society and certificates for valour. He requested his ashes to be buried at sea off the coast of Meols. May he rest in peace and raise in glory

Steve Hart

Steve Hart Husband, father, brother, son. Loved and missed by all. Having been rescued after a storm capsized their yacht on a sailing holiday in Skye in 1976, he had great respect for the sea and those who risk their lives for others. Supporting the RNLI always made perfect sense. Sadly he is no longer with us but he would be extremely proud to have his name on the Shannon boat.

Isabel Woodhouse

Isabel was a dedicated fundraiser for Withernsea Lifeboat Station. She was a founding fundraiser for Withernsea Lifeboat Station when it opened in 1974. Her husband, Ken, was a founder crewman. Isabel would sometimes assisted with looking after casualties that were recovered from sea by the Lifeboat.

Pictured on the port bow, Ken was a founder crewman at Withernsea Lifeboat Station. Joining the RNLI in 1974, Ken went on to spend many years at the heart of Withernsea Lifeboat Station in both crew and launch authority roles. His wife, Isabel, was a dedicated fundraiser for the RNLI.

My father would be so proud to have his name on a Lifeboat. He was in the Royal Navy and, whilst a gunner on a Merchant Ship, was sunk in the Channel. He and the Captain, who he tried to save, were picked up by a lifeboat and so thanks to those brave men I had many wonderful years with my father. I was very proud of my father who was awarded a BEM for his bravery and I am in awe of the wonderful RNLI volunteers.

From Daphne, Peter, Philip and Jean. Our mum and dad, were both born in 1920. Families have grown, long standing seafaring connections have evolved, many memories remain. The RNLI have now provided an obvious and fitting opportunity for the wider family to remember our parents on a life saving memorial that will become operational during the centenary of their birth. Thank you RNLI.

John Rogers

Although not a seafarer my father was in the Royal Artillery and enjoyed his time in the army. He took us regularly to Portsmouth for the Navy open days and encouraged us to remember and respect the armed forces and RNLI especially on Remembrance Day. He passed away in February 2015 but I know he would be so proud to have his name on a lifeboat.

Richard Martyn Jackson

My Dad passed away 5th October 2019, 7 weeks after being diagnosed with bowel cancer - he was 66. Words can not express how shocked and devastated my family and I are. But Dad was a model patient and became even more lovely and amazing. He would have been so humbled to be part of RNLI history and would be grinning like a Cheshire Cat saying he helps saves lives. Look after those volunteers Dad! 😌💪🏻 X

Harold Spence

Harold lived by the sea for the last 26 years and loved it, his Father used to work at sea for White Star Line. Harold's Grandson continues that by working at sea. The beloved husband of the late Anne (née Rennie d. 2008) dearly loved Dad of Julie and Rob. Father-in-law to Dave and Elaine, a proud and caring Paps to Gareth and Adam, great grandfather to Ruby and Phoebe, a loving brother to Lilian, and a respected Uncle. Harold was a retired Police Inspector with GMP where he served until 1979.

Annie Smyth (Gray)

Mum always supported RLNI, I think because her brother Jim (Gray) was at sea in WWII. I am now a shoreline member to continue her tradition for as long as I live. Mum, miss you so, so much. Your Stevie

John Ridler 1866 - 1912 (RNLI Crew Louisa)

John Ridler was a member of the crew of the Lifeboat Louisa that was involved in the "Overland Launch" on 12th January 1899. His brother, Richard Ridler was the bowman. The lifeboat could not be launched at Lynmouth so the decision was made to use horses and local people to take the Louisa 13 miles overland to launch at Porlock Weir.Their heroic and incredibly difficult rescue meant that the 18 crew of the Forrest Hall all survived. Richard Thomas Ridler 1857 - 1912 (Bowman - Lifeboat Louisa)

On 12 January 1899, RNLI lifeboat volunteers undertook one of the most arduous feats to date – dragging a lifeboat 13 miles overnight, overland in terrible weather to launch at Porlock Weir in aid of the Forrest Hall. The stormy weather threatened to run the ship ashore at Porlock. Over 100 local people and 18 horses helped with the journey. Their heroic and incredibly difficult rescue meant that the 18 crew of the Forrest Hall all survived. Richard Thomas Ridler was the bowman (2nd from right)

David was my Dad, who was taken from us suddenly this year. He joined the Navy when he was 15 and served for 10 years. His memories remained with him all his life and later he enjoyed sailing with friends and family. He was a big supporter of RNLI and is very sadly missed.

Ron White

Ron was born on 9 October 1930. It was in Ramsgate that Ron & his dear wife Marion joined the RNLI where Ron became collection box secretary, cashing up all the donation boxes around Ramsgate. As Ron didn’t drive, he & Marion were regularly seen going in & out of the pubs with a shopping trolley which did prompt some strange looks! For the work which Ron carried out for the RNLI, he received a long service bronze award. Ron passed away in April 2018 & is dearly missed by his family & friends.

Allan Mathers (captain chaos)

In loving memory of a very special man, Allan Mathers who was also known as captain chaos. He was a very keen fisherman and also owned his own fishing boat which he would often fish from in scotland. He would be immensely proud of his name being at sea on the RNLI lifeboat saving lives. He was very sadly taken from us on the 20th December 2018. Missed and loved more and more every day.. Barbara Carter

Much loved and missed wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and more. Barbara Carter was an avid supporter of the RNLI from her days working in The Grange Hotel which was adjacent to the Rhyl lifeboat station where the crew would often gather after a shout for well earned refreshments. We are sure she would be proud as punch to have her name alongside the crew from Invergordon having lived in Scotland a short while during her lifetime aswell

We all miss our Dad, Grandad, Uncle, and friend so much. He was a larger than life character who is missed by so many. His love will never be replaced. As a young man he was a submariner and always referred to the RNLI as an amazing service. As a child I can remember my Grandad always giving me money to put in the RNLI box. As an adult I regularly took him to the seaside and we always visited the RNLI to make a donation. He would be immensely proud to have his name on the side of a RNLI boat.

Joyce Eileen Wall 14.6.1927 - 7.4.2011 Nanny Joyce was a much loved mum, nanny and great grandma. As a family we are frequent visitors to Bude and it was here that Joyce would always want to visit the RNLI shop to buy notebooks and cards and chat to the volunteers. She was also a keen supporter of the local surf life saving club, attending their demonstrations. Like so many who visit Bude she valued the work of the Lifeguards helping to keep swimmers and surfers safe.

Grandma worked for over 25 years fundraising for the RNLI gaining a silver award for her fundraising. Margaret worked for the RNLI because her husband Graham, son Nigel and daughter Karen all sailed on the Clyde. Grandma left us in June 2006 but what she doesn't know is that Euan her special boy is now also a sailor and hope's one day to volunteer to help first hand for the RNLI at sea...he is only 15.

Dad (Norman) was a seafarer for many, many years. He was a great lover of the sea in his ships and sailing in the dinghy he built himself. He had a great respect for the sea which was instilled in us from an early age and which we used even when just going to the seaside for a day out. He was a staunch supporter of the RNLI and this is our way of remembering him in a way he would be proud of. Sadly he was taken from us far to early .

Harold Wood

This dedicationis to my father. He served on mine sweepers for the duration of the Second World War . Part of the duties of the sweepers were to clear sown mines in the the North Sea and English Channel ,a verydangerous job. On one occasion he told me that his minesweeper went to assist the Cromer Lifeboat that had gone to assist a merchant vessel that had been targeted by German Planes.The lifeboatmens lives were in danger but carried out their duties . He supported lifeboats all his life

Rev’d Canon Peter Hubert Hallam MBE

Peter was born on the 19th December 1933 and lived in Oldham until the begging of World War 2 when he moved to his beloved Wales. He became Vicar at St .James Church ,Briercliffe and remained there for over 30 yrs ; so long that they named the street at the rear of the church, HALLAM STREET. We married in 2001 and spent over 17 yrs of marriage living in Burnley. He died in May 2019 of stomach cancer.He was my husband ,my friend ,my rock and I miss him every day .CARIADx

Frank Bristow 1946-2014

Frank was a dedicated schoolmaster, retiring in 2006 from Bryanston School as Director of Technology. He loved the sea all his life and sailing was one of his passions. After his retirement he worked as a volunteer boatswain for the Poole branch of the RNLI. It seems a fitting tribute to have his name on the new Shannon.

In loving memory of my wife Eleanor a mother and grandmother. An inspiration in her time as Admin Officer to many young people in the Paisley Sea Cadet Corps, where she learnt to sail and canoe. Always liked to visit the local lifeboat stations when on holiday. During our last holiday on the Norfolk Broads she took great delight in skippering the cruiser round the Broads. Sadly she passed away 08/11/2018. She would be delighted to know her name will be on a Shannon Class Lifeboat.

Ray spent 47 years at sea in the Merchant Navy working for a number of operators including Elder Dempster Line, Blue Funnel, Ocean Transport & Trading and James Fisher. He was always a keen supporter or the RNLI and he would be delighted to know that he is remembered in this way.

My dad loved nothing more than spending time on his yacht, the Pepsi. The sea was his first love and spent many many hours sailing, across Swansea bay. He would be honoured to know his name is being placed on a life boat.

Captain John A. O’Sullivan

John came from a long line of seafarers and answered the call of the sea at the age of 17. (The lure of university or his mother’s concerns failing to keep him shoreside!). The year was 1953 and he joined the Irish Larch en route for the Americas. His life at sea was the inspiration for great shaggy-dog stories full of adventure & strong characters - much like himself. He died on October 15th 2017 finding himself a safe harbour just before Storm Ophelia lashed the Irish coast. RIP Old Salty

Stephen Morgan

Steve was born in Elgin in 1970. His dad was in RN at Lossiemouth where I had also served in Wrens. We ended up in Plymouth,he had a brother and two sisters and he loved the sea. Sadly in 1989 he died off Plymouth in a diving accident. He would love the idea of having his name on a lifeboat. Forever young and forever missed xx

Peter spent all his younger years at sea (first trip at 15) he traveled the world, an always loved the sea, always talking & reading about this time in his life. Peter passed away late January this year, missed so much, always in my heart. X

Jo Green; wife, mother, grandmother in waiting

Jo was in her element in water, having been brought up in a seaside town in eastern England. She loved to swim, and continued until a few months before she died. Two of her uncles were lost at sea: a Hull fisherman in the 1960s, and an airman that died when his plane crashed in the Irish Sea during WW2. When she received a legacy from an aunt - the sister of her uncles - the first thing she did was stuff £50 into an RNLI collecting tin, to the astonishment of the lucky collector.
