Her name will now be the 3rd person in our family to be on a lifeboat. My brother passed away on June 29th 2024 and his name..Paul Phillips..will be on the Exmouth boat and my other brother.. Peter Phillips..who lost his life while working on the river Thames christmas eve 1975 has his name on the Whitby lifeboat.

Ken loved the sea! From his days as a deep sea trawlerman sailing out of Hull, to as many boat trips as possible on various holiday destinations and also cruising up and down the Norfolk Broads. The sea ran through his veins. On his passing, a little bit of him once again sailed from the Humber Bridge on his final journey to the open ocean sailing for eternity. We miss him enormously but take comfort knowing he's at peace in his favourite place ❤

Great Nan Ruby (Husbands) 1926-2017 and my Nan Lesley (Scott)

Our family has strong Nautical roots as both Nan Ruby and Grandad Reg (Reginald Prosser) served in the Navy- With Ruby, part of the W.R.N.S she has always been such an inspiration. We lost our beautiful Ruby in 2017, who would be 98 this year on 23rd August. For passing on her resilient characteristics (and nautical love) to my Nan Lesley and the other generations of women in our family- including my Daughter, who was born this year, I will forever be grateful. Our fathers served in the Royal Navy together and remained friend's for the rest of their lives. Because of the their friendship we both met and also became lifelong best friends. Hi, A month ago Amie, my niece was brutally stabbed to death on the beach at Bournemouth. It is for this reason my family and I are dedicating her memory. My son used to work at RNLI POOLE, so I am aware of not only the great work that is carried out but how much work goes on behind the scenes in planning, testing,trials before these boats are ready to go out and save lives.I feel by having Amie’s name added her memory will be known by so many.

William Austin (Master mariner).

My great, great grandfather William Austin was a master mariner from New Road, Brixham, Devon who died off Rio De Janeiro, Brazil with Yellow fever on 23rd March 1879. He owned a fruit schooler named ‘Patriot’ and sailed to North Africa, the Azores, Mediterranean and the Caribbean. He also lost a large number of friends and family members to the sea due to storms and shipwrecks. The RNLI Lifeboat crew do superb work under very difficult conditions and I salute them for their courageous work.

Jacquie was always such a wonderful, loving, happy and caring lady, who brought happiness into so many lives. It was always a pleasure to be in her company. After a very sudden and short illness, Jacquie lost her fight for life and passed away on Sunday 2nd June in Leicester Royal Infirmary. She will be loved and missed by all of her family and friends. Anthony supported the RNLI all his life after being in the merchant navy in his youth. Every holiday in our married life on iholiday he would make sure to find the lifeboat base. He sadly passed away 6 months ago and we asked for donations to the Lifeboats in his memory. He would so proud to have his name on one of the lifeboats. Thanks for all you do. Mary and Emma.

Edward Wiskin

Edward Wiskin was a much loved uncle and great uncle by all in his family and he spent his life on and around The Solent. He was born in 1934 in Southampton. In his early life he served in the Royal Navy, and then in later life was a volunteer for the RNLI serving on the Calshot lifeboat. Sadly he died in 1999 from cancer. I am adding his name to the Exmouth lifeboat so that he can once again go to sea. Uncle Eddie you will always be remembered.

Samantha was a loving a dedicated mother of six and nanny of two. Unfortunately, at the age of 47, she lost her battle with breast cancer in May 2024. Spending most of her life raising her children, who she adored, she never got the chance to see the world. By adding her name to an RNLI lifeboat, she can finally go out and explore the world; as she was meant to. “Words cannot describe how much we miss you, Mum/Nanny. We will love and cherish you forever.”

There are a few reasons why I know that Philip would really admire this dedication. It is a charity he spoke of fondly, he was in awe at the dedication of the volunteers, our life was all about being on the coast as much as possible, and ultimately the RNLI played a big part in the search for Philip. Ian was our wonderful son-in-law who died suddenly in August 2020, leaving our daughter Catherine a widow at 42 and their three lovely children fatherless. Before her marriage Catherine , and her sister Charlotte, were brought up in Exeter, where the family home was for 38 years. Catherine and Ian were married for 10 years and, although their home together was in the Home Counties, they loved returning to Devon whenever they could. Ian loved sailing and had hoped to retire near the sea one day.

My dad Andy was once a thespian, then taxi driver, bus driver even sold fish door to door! He was dad to myself , my older brother and grandpa to our children. He passed away after a long battle with brain tumours he lived for 25 years with the support of the NHS. Since 2017 life became a lot less quiet and less chaotic but i would give anything to have that again. I love my dad and despite our ups and downs still miss him. I spread her ashes in the Firth of Clyde as she liked visiting me on the Ayrshire Coast and admiring Arran's landscape. She didn't wish to be forgotten. Alan Rowbotham, Lt. Commander RN

Alan had a lifelong and worldwide association with the sea. He understood its many moods, its majesty, beauty and danger. In his retirement, he was Senior Officer on Watch for the RNLI, and took charge of running the School for Sea Cadets in Weymouth. Alan was a man of huge integrity and practicality; he touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.

Jean Williams- Nan

In loving memory of Jean Williams, who sadly passed away on 27th January 2024, aged 87 years. A cherished and much loved Sister, Mum, Nan and Great Grandmother, beloved wife of the late Capt. Robert Olsen Williams. She is missed by all her family, friends and all those that knew her.

Margo Addiscott

Mum grew up living beside and on the River Clyde, where her dad was a ship’s pilot. She spent many happy days sailing “up and doon the water”. Although she travelled the world in later life, she always came home to the West coast, living close to the sea and the beautiful views to Arran. She was much loved by family and friends alike. Her ashes were scattered by the RNLI Troon lifeboat in June 2024. A beautiful send-off for mum, who loved the sea and was a great supporter of the RNLI.

Dad (Professor Chris Burgoyne) grew up in a house overlooking the Exe Estuary in Topsham. He joined Topsham Sea Scouts and throughout his life supported the RNLI. How fitting it is then, that his name will be inscribed on a lifeboat based so close to his beloved childhood home. Dad, you will be deeply missed and long remembered. 'I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied.'

I'm adding my wife's name to the Lifeboat purely because she deserves something like this! She is a Carer who when she isn't looking after people, is looking after injured and orphaned birds. She's been doing both stoically for more than twenty years, always putting herself last, and she is pretty much on-call 24 hours a day. She certainly DOESN'T do it for any financial reward. Her selfless devotion to helping both people and animals in need thus seems very apt and fitting.

Dr Fred and Dr Ann Nicoll

Doctors Fred and Ann Nicoll were the local GPs in Eyemouth Berwickshire from 1961 until 1992. Fred was also the RNLI doctor throughout this time, a role he adored, and it was a huge regret to him when he had to retire after reaching a certain age. He had many adventures with the lifeboat including skiving off to a decompression chamber with a diver when he was on call, leaving Ann to hold the fort. As our parents they are always missed. Xx
