And have achieved “competent crew” status 3 x on 3 x different waters. I’d love to pay it forward. In more than just a monetary way. Is there space for me on a lifeboat?

Mum was an RNLI committee member in Swindon, collected for years and was a great believer of this volunteer organisation. Her and Dad always had a ‘lifeboat’ on the business counter - by the cash till.

My Great Aunt Bella Matheison

My Great Aunt Bella, known in the Cullercoats, Whitley Bay area of the North East as "The Lifeboat Lady" was usually to be seen on holiday weekends patrolling the sea front dressed in her Cullercoats Fishwife costume clutching her lifeboat collecting box demanding money with menaces from unsuspecting holiday makers. This was back in the 1950s when I was just a lad. I dont know much about her other than she raised lots of money for the Cullercoats lifeboat.

It wasn't long after last Christmas we lost Dad, the figure of the family that set the foundations and direction I'd later in life follow, and make a career of it here in the RNLI. He was the example of a courageous fisherman, being at sea for over 50 years, supporting his family. He later in life loved nothing more than being part of the RNLI as DLA. He will continue to be with the RNLI on the Numbers of Wells' new Shannon Lifeboat.

Last Christmas was tough as my dad went missing from cardwell bay gourock on 7/12/19 and wasn't recovered from the water in meikleross bay roseneath until 18/1/20 which would have been his 56 birthday , my dad wanted to work as a coastguard but sadly never got that chance but I have the div Wilson forever by sea charity honour them both ,it's difficult every day I am his only daughter and my daughter Kaitlyn his first grandaughte Gave birth to his first great grandchild Layla Grace David Rennie
