My Granda, Terence McCullough, worked as a ship builder at Swan Hunters shipyard on the Tyne. Of the many ships he helped to build, the most famous was the HMS Ark Royal. Alongside my Nana, he used to take my Mam and Uncle on holidays to Whitby when they were younger. My Granda unfortunately passed away in the summer of this year (2022) and I think it is so poignant that he can be remembered through the building of a new boat that will have a similar legacy that HMS Ark Royal did.
