My mum was always fascinated by Whitby as her mother was called Hilda and St Hilda was abbess at Whitby. Mum regularly collected for the RNLI and one year, to her delight, she won the experience of being on a lifeboat (Seaham?) as it was launched down the slipway. Although this was probably 50ish years ago she treasured this memory until she died in the late 1980s
