Proud to honour Memory of Great-Uncle on RNLI Lifeboat. Mercantile Seaman, Donkeyman, John Speers 38, with all 17 crew lost, 3 Feb 1918 when SS Lofoten sunk by German Sub UB-38, 7 miles off Devon Coast. Terrible time for Speers, as his brother, James Speers 54, died 26 Feb 1918 of Spanish Flu, followed by brother, William Speers 42, who died 26 Mar 1918 due kidney problems. With nephew, Samuel Speers 14 buried 1 Jan 1918. Our Nan, Millie Speers was 10 when Dad, William died, and 18 when lost Mum
