Douglas was a serving member of the Royal Auxiliary Naval Service and received the distinction of The Long Service medal. My father had an occasion to be in need of services from the RNLI. He also came to the rescue of a Mayday call himself during storms when a boat was floundering. Doug loved the sea and was an inspiration and mentor to us all
