Andy Herbert
Andy was born and bred in Exmouth.
He loved anything to do with being on the water. He started a water taxi service; was co-founder of Exmouth rowing club; built and raced sailing craft, worked with the RNLI and Trinity House. A brilliant seaman and navigator. He is a greatly missed and dearly loved friend and brother.
‘I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.’ Sea Fever, John Masefield
