Dad was at sea all his working life, a radio operator on deep sea trawlers out of Hull and Fleetwood. In November 1953 he picked up a partial distress call and by process of elimination recognised the vessel as MT Hildina , caught fast and in danger of sinking, no more contact was made with the Hildina, no other vessels were near Sule Skerry, so on my Dad's word alone the skipper of MT Velia cut their gear and went full steam to the area. The Hildina was lost but 10 men were saved from the sea.
