My Uncle John was coxswain of the Eastbourne Lifeboat from 1961-1966 and served in the Merchant Navy prior to this. One of his notable rescues was to transfer the Lighthouse Keeper whom had broken both of his legs and weighed 22 stone from the Lighthouse to the Lifeboat in a raging storm when a helicopter failed to enable a rescue.
Uncle passed away many years ago but has not been forgotten and I think this is a most fitting way to ensure that his memory will live on.
