Gaudern Holvey
My father was in the D Day landing force. On approaching France, their lorries were craned onto rafts. As this took place they came under enemy attack. The lorries were tightly packed so the resultant fires spread rapidly. The men abandoned them climbing up nets on the side of the ship. Gaudern waited until everyone else was off. By now the rafts had been cut adrift so he had to jump into the sea and swim. They struggled to pull him aboard ship. Hence having his name on a lifeboat is a very apt
